Huge amount of plastic is gathered at Väätsa

Sanna helped all of us understand that we should separate "Pakend" also here at the hostel!! So we picked up all Pakend out off the waste bin and realized that almost a half of waste was not Olme but Pakend :)

The first modern landfill in Estonia was established 16 years ago in Väätsa.
Now it is a recycling waste station which collects and separates municipal wastes from local area. After separation the waste will be sent to companies which reuse it as a raw material for new products.

In Estonia and in Finland we have different system how we sort our waste.
Metal, plastic and cardboard packages goes to "Pakend" in Estonia. In Finland we have separate bins for above mentioned waste.

We have had few interesting places to visit. Yesterday Särevere students told us their experiences about agricultural training at Särevere campus of Järvamaa Kutsehariduskeskus. It came up that they would like to have even more education about sustainable development in their studies.

Work placements

In the first year I was in a two different companies doing my work placement. The first one was in a local waste reception station Kymenlaakson Jäte. I was there from October to February three days a week. From March to May I was working for Metsähallitus, that provides natural resources sector services to a diverse customer base and it's operations are based on the knowledgeable and co-operative use of state land and water areas. In Metsähallitus we took care of the Gulf of Finland Natural Park, which is located in the islands in the Kotka archipelago. In the summer I was working for the city of Kouvola and now in the autumn semester I continue my working placement there. I've been using the brush cutter and chainsaw, planning bike trails around the city and fixing duckboards, for example.

These are pictures from the waste reception station:

These are from Metsähallitus:
I got to mark the nature reserve in the woods by painting the trees and placing this plate in it.

Going around the Gulf of Finland Nature Park was only possible by boat.

The scenery in the archipelago was more than awesome!

We had to leave the boat there because there was not enough water. We had those red dry suits on so we could just walk to the shore.

Here we are digging out the harmful beach rose (Rosa rugosa) that will spread very fast.

Net pictures are from the city of Kouvola:
The brush cutter I use quite much.

My first day task was to take that yellow plate over there!

I think pictures are the best way to show you what we do in our school, so here you go:

This is BioSampo, training and research centre.

In the first year we learnt how to drive a tractor.

Our very first task as a class was to cut this bush and make a tunnel into it.

Tractor training continues.

This is the main campus in Anjala.

Our class visiting Valkmusa National Park, which is one big swamp.

Doing some real work with this machine, not just practising in the field.

We did some repairing work to the stairs in the nearby trail.

We did two trips to the Gulf of Finland National Park, both to the island Ulko-Tammio.

Learning to use the chainsaw.

Trip to the island included preparing our own meals.
